RA 10172 and My (Mis)adventures (Part 3: Race against Time )

February --- I talked to my parents about their upcoming summer vacation and they told me that they had planned to spend the first 5-7 days in Davao (dad's hometown) and the other 5-7 days in Misamis Oriental (mom's hometown) . Since I was not really close to my relatives and I did not have any idea where to get the necessary documents, I had decided to file a leave of absence for two days (April 22-23) coinciding the days that they would be spending in Misamis Oriental. I chose Air Philippines (now PalExpress) and paid three thousand pesos for around-trip ticket from Manila to Cagayan de Oro and vice Versa.

Tips in Filing Petition for Correction by Virtue of RA 10172

  1. Plan ahead. This is necessary especially to those whose place of birth is far from where they are currently residing. Book your trip ahead of time to avail promos or discounts to minimize transportation expenses. Allot enough (or more) time and expect the unexpected because we have to deal with government officials who would sometimes say “Balik na lang kayo bukas, the day after the next, and so on”, like I myself had experienced. It would also be helpful not to file for a petition of correction on ELECTION SEASON and after regular/special holidays for obvious reasons.

RA 10172 and My (Mis)adventures (Part 4: The Ordeal )

April 20-21 (Saturday and Sunday)--this was the longest and the most boring weekend for me. That was also the most stressful one because I couldn't help but to think of what would possibly happen to my job. I just had filed for two days leave of absence, and now I had to be absent on Monday, the following week.

April 22nd- Monday.

I was accompanied by my two cousins to go to the Municipal Health Center to have the Municipal Health Officer's (MHO) signature on the “Special Medical Certificate”.

RA 10172 and My (Mis)adventures (Part 2: Requirements)

My parents and my siblings had gone to my(and my mom's) hometown a few days ahead of me. I requested them to bring the documents (the original copies and three photocopies of each) that I had prepared.

RA 10172 and My (Mis)adventures (Part 1-Preview)

The last two weeks were the most stressful ones for me. After almost eighteen years, I finally had a chance to go back to Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, not to have a vacation, but to fix my birth certificate. As you guys might remember, my eighteenth goal to be accomplished this year is to fix the wrong gender entry on my birth certificate by virtue of Republic Act 10172.
